The Agony and the Irony.

Argunon and On and On and On

I empathize somewhat with someone writing draenei history, because Blizzard seems content providing none of it, but making yourself the hero of everything isn’t really the best way to go about it.

Don’t you love it when people can’t follow simple directions?

This MRP took 30+ screenshots to take. Dear developer of MRP, I ask you to please put a character limit on these things. Thank you.

“I am the weaver of the earth and light.” I am the terror that flaps in the night. “I wield the light of creations. I am not disciplined like my brethren. I wield a primal light. A chaotic light. A light that induces emotions of ecstacy and goodness.” A strobe light? A black light? “I weave the elements into unity, producing the purity of the primal light.”

That’s all nice, but what does that have to do with your appearance?

“Is he A draenei-or something more.” A dragon? No. A high elf? No. A Mary Sue? Yes! Which is actually decidedly less.

“His eyes glitter chaotically, seemengly searching for some unknown reality or reaching out in harmony to a foreign force.” How can one tell you’re searching or reaching out with your eyes? Do you have a constant look of constipation where ever you go?

Ahh, Rob Liefeld. Is there anything you CAN do?

“His face is hardened from thousands of years of both strife and war, yet their is a rebirth on his face, at almost all times, a dawning of hope.” So… his face has hardened so much weeds are growing in the cracks? That’s what I’m getting from this.

“((Hey everyone, Before you even THINK about reading more of my profile you must at least sans over the poem I wrote from ze perspective of a troll.))” Oh, this should be good.

Ladies and gentlemen, the next Eminem. With phat rhymes like “I greet you in RP saying Hai Watsup / Maybe even flash you A sight of my but”, “I got my kink and hair, You cant best that / I mean you kno the night elf girls call me a cool cat” and “So cry all you want, complain all you wish / Everyday I will be servin trolling on a dish” we know we are dealing with a person who has a command of the English language.

“MY RP” Finally.

“Character Profile” Isn’t this whole MRP supposed to be your character profile?

“Last name: Vandar” Yeah, draenei have those.

Okay, some of these aren’t bad. Draenei shaman, wait, no priest?
“Combative style: Uses a combination of the light and the elements…”
Oh lord. This word you keep using, combative, I do not think it means what you think it means.

“Personal Profile” What is this?

Guild status: Have 1, but im not crazy about it (Hope non of the people in my guild are reading this :p)” Poor Conscendo de Astrum. First they are a new guild so they have no perks and then this!? I may have to inform them. I’m that spiteful, I really am.
“RP hang out spots: Cathedral square, any tavern in SW.” That says a lot about this character.

“GHI: Yup
MY role play: Yup
Flag 2 RSP: /sigh
Total RP 2: Yup”
This is valuable information, since this explains what your character’s appearance is and tells us things we can’t see, like what add on you’re using while we look at your appearance on MRP. Thank you for telling us this.

“Character quotes.” OH FFS. Ialready know what this guy looks like, why the hell am I still reading?!

The last quote is the best because this guy basically rewrote all the flavor texts of the races on the character creation screen and the opening cinematic for each race and throws them all together to make one big quote.

“Timeline”

My favorite part is when he goes “((WHY ARE YOU TELLING PEOPLE YOUR HISTORY YOU GODDAMN METAGAMER!… ok… calm down… you can know somebody’s history oocly without knowing it icly… Its just like somebody’s level hp or class….))” and he actually thinks anyone cares about his extensive, lore-adjacent-at-best timeline.

Let’s give you all a TL;DR rundown of the timeline.

26k+ years ago, the father and mother of the character in question were born. The father is a smart guy, graduates with honors and goes off to find himself before he settled down with a nice accounting job. He believes he has found the Light and begins to tell us his friends about his magical Light that blesses people. His friends look at him like he’s strung out on some weed he found in Amsterdam and ignore the crazy man. At the same time, his soon to be wife discovers shamanism thousands of years before Nobundo even heard the winds call his name and speak to him.

The two meet up and share their discoveries.

“I believe that there is this force called The Light that no one has ever heard of.”
“I believe that there is a force inside the elements of the earth that no one has ever heard of!”

Naturally, the two get married. and pop out little Argunon. Five years later they die in a tragic accident and Argunon becomes a millionaire and saves Gotham City from lots of bad guys is adopted by a family of mages. He becomes a genuis and a scholar and wants to go off and find out things, just like his now dead parents but he doesn’t know much about them because no one told him much of them. He find their journals and reads about The Light and Shamanism. He reads up on it and tries to practice both faiths, but fails at it. Around this time, the Burning Legion is coming and he “sees how sargeras’s supposed goodness contradicts the texts of his mother and father.” So, random dreanei knows Sargeras is evil because he parents wrote what goodness is in their diaries and and he knows when people are actually good, for goodness sakes! He rallies with Velen and agrees to fight with Velen against the demons. He studies how the Burning Legion is changing his people and finds out that it’s demonic energy! he sees some of his people die and explodes with Light magic! He doesn’t know how the fuck it happened, but damnit, he was the first draenei to use it! Twenty five years later, the Naaru come to Velen and another twenty five years later, Argunon meets a Naaru for the first time. “Upon seeing him the powers of the light which have been building up inside of him finally manifest.” So, he becomes one of the first priests ever. How shocking.

Six hundred years after Sargeras offers power and wealth, the dreanei escape on Oshu’gon and they all travel around to different worlds. Six hundred years. Argunon keeps diaries of each world they visit.  He gets the title Lightwarden. “After wandering different worlds for thousands of years, Argunon begins to seek something deeper with the world themselves.” Since he was correct about his father knowing about something that no one knew about, he thinks his mother may be right in her idea of shamanism. So he begins to check it out on random planets. He has a little success here and there, but nothing too major. The ship lands on Dreanor and he helps build one of the first settlements and becomes BFF with an orc, Kor’thar. Kor’thrar teaches him about shamanism and Argunon teaches him about the Light. It’s the making of the perfect sitcom.  After he learns a bunch, he heads back to his people and develops both his shamanistic and priestly skills. After a thousand years on Draenor, he gets the itch to travel again. The rest of his people say no, because they are afraid he will give out their location to the Burning Legion. That is the sanest thing anyone has done in this entire timeline.

“Argunon, with his shamanistic powers, feels the explosions that the well of eternity has caused. He keeps this to himself though.”

There is so much wrong with that, I don’t even know where to begin.

What’s that, reader? You think you just felt them too? No, those were my frontal lobes exploding.

Then he starts losing his powers as a shaman and moves to Shattrath where he becomes bros with the Naaru. After SEVEN THOUSAND YEARS, “he sees orc aggresiveness increase.” He goes to chat with the Frostwolf clan, the only clan that didn’t drink the blood of Mannoroth and relearns his shaman abilities. He is then exiled for talking to them and then the Frostwolf won’t accept him as an equal, so he throws his hands in the air and gives up. “As a master of the powers of shamanism and the light, Argunon is forced to watch his people be obliterated by the corrupted orcs.” Even though he’s a master of two forms of magic, he just sits there. Way to go. He eventually gets off his ass and begins to weave The Light with the Elements. He also manages to reach other worlds. By meditating. Just thinking for a bit and managing to contact other planets. He figures out there is something similar to the two, but he can’t study it because Shatt is getting pwned by orcs. He comes up with a suicidal plan to save the world! He nearly dies and the Legion takes him prisoner. They send him back to Argus and he swears vengeance!

“[H]e swears to avenge the Legion someday.” This, too, does not mean what you think it means.

He finds a waygate to Outland and heads back, finding the city in ruins. He finds some Broken and tell them his story. I hope that the Broken rolled their eyes at him. The orcs invade Azeroth and Argunon helps the Broken build some cities and begins to study three elements. Light, Shamanism and whatever the fuck the third one is. He makes some discovery about how everything is connected or some other Disney bullshit  and becomes a Prophet to the Broken. He begins to wonder about the Dark Portal and eventually goes through it, meeting a few more dreanei. They remove his exile because they are desperate and it would be best if he was allowed back in.

Apparently, this thing he was studying was some kind of Primal Light. He begins to teach it all over Stormwind and tries to stop the war between the Horde and Alliance.

Now he’s been discharged from the Earthen Ring because of those three elements and now he resides IN THE MOUNTAINS near Stormwind and preaches to people all day, hoping to educate the world.

How can we make this better? For one, stop with the multi-classing. I know a few people who do it well, like a warlock and a mage, or a rogue and a hunter, but priest and shaman are two entirely different classes, based off two entirely different faiths.  You can’t heal with the Light one day and then yell for the Spirits to defend you. You need to pick one or the other. You can’t have your cake and eat it too.

When a child is born, they inherit a few traits from their parents. Eye color, hair color, body size, the norm, but we do not automatically inherit their special abilities.  I did not gain my father’s ability to know how to drive and not get lost and I didn’t get my mother’s ability to do math. I still get lost in my own apartment and I would die if I had to do simple math in my head.  It’s one thing if your character found your parents journals and set off to understand them, but being the first shaman and priest ever because of your dead parents makes absolutely no sense.

I don’t care if this timeline is a complete waste of characters or the next great American novel. It doesn’t belong here. The people trying to figure out what you look like and if they want to roleplay with you are not your audience for bad poetry and a brief history of time. I know how the MySpace tag at the top of MRP can confuse one in that regard, but– what? There isn’t a MySpace tag in any roleplaying addon?

ANOTHER THING. The first shaman ever is not your dead mother. Please, go read Unbroken to get a better understanding on how the draenei shaman lore works. While draenei lore is lacking, there is plenty to work with if you look hard enough. Check out the quests in the starting zones and Outland, head to your local book store and try to get yourself a copy of The Rise of The Horde. Watch the opening cinematic of the Black Temple raid instance to get a feel for the danger the draenei were in when the orcs attacked. I am impressed with the amount of detail in this character, but sometimes, less is more. We don’t need to know what happened to your character ever single year of his life. Being vague will work fine when talking about your past. I know the little details of my character’s pasts, but I have not written them all down in chronological order. Those events shaped who she is, they do not define who she is.

    • I do believe the author of MRP lurks around here somewhere…maybe he/she will see this and please the masses!

      • OH…..hello. This is argunon, and….I wrote this history, when I first made my character, I have refined many of the aspects of my role-play.

I find it.. a little pathetic….that you spend your time ridiculing other role-players, while you really know nothing of their backstory. Look, my friend, If you want to talk about my lore seriously, as I am always open to suggestions, I will be MORE THAN WILLING TO, just send me a tell in game.

        Thanks, and peace be yours

Sorry, you don’t get to call stuff “pathetic” when you toot your own horn by citing quotes from your own character, and then expect us to read ALL OF THAT.

It’s one thing to have all of that in your head and let it come out through roleplay. It’s quite another to soak up server-side and client-side memory with huge-ass flags that NOBODY wants to read.

I will NOT “click to embiggen.” You can’t make me.

Holy crap. I can’t imagine getting through that nonsense. I may just pop over to MRP’s Curse page and ask about a character limit. And FlagRSP. And…yeah.

Seriously. There’s such a thing as too much. Especially when it’s this bad. Take another look, please, and just ask yourself “does this actually make any logical sense?” And then work on simplifying to get it to do so.

It doesn’t make for any less of an interesting character to lose a few (dozen) gimmicks. If anything, it makes it -easier- to be interesting when you aren’t trying to remember every nonsensical complexity and have to come up with neat ideas to through situations instead of just magically fixing things instantly and twiddling thumbs for the rest of the night.

Incredible. I do not even need to meet this player to know that OOC, he is complacent and obnoxious. “26,300:Argunon becomes known as a genius”
The character can only ever be as intelligent as the player who controls him. By the way he quotes himself, and believes that he should play some important role in history, it’s clear this guy believes that he is the definition of genius.

Does anyone know what realm this character is on?

That third power would be druidism. Shamanism leads to druidism leads to the light. Or something along the lines.

But honestly, does he really expect ANYONE to read through this? When I scan a flag for potential RP, I need a quick idea for a reason to adress or avoid you. I definitely do not need to slog through a novel-length description.

    March 30, 2011 at 1:43 am

  11. linnetbird

    It’s actually an interesting read…

Oh, what, I keep an open mind? So shoot me!

That being said, it’s soooooo out of place in an RP flag…

Personally, I have a hard time convincing myself to read a description if it’s more than 20 lines of text.

This one is about 20.000. By the time I’m done reading your flag so I know how to react to you walking up to me, you’ve been gone for an hour.

    Short and simple, people.

Now, if it’d been a story-thing written on a roleplaying forum, I wouldn’t have minded.

    Except.

If you’re so important, personally responsible for…well…everything, Velen’s right hand, first shaman…

Why haven’t I EVER heard of you?

You’d think someone would’ve mentioned how you beat back the legion single-handedly, how you rediscovered shamanism, how you founded every settlement, how you brought peace, how wise you were, how nice you smelled, how the light was reflected by your teeth, how you won the Miss Eredar pageant and how you got a perfect score on your SAT.

Not to mention your cool-guy attitude and your flaming red hair…oh, wait, that was someone else.

I understand wanting to be -the- hero. I do. But it’s been said so many times before: Pick one.

This isn’t DnD, you can’t multiclass!

This and the other recent RSPs make me sad. Seriously. It’s because the last four that have been done were on the Alliance side. I want to create a new Alliance character (thinking a gnome shadowpriest), but these just make me…ugh!

Anyhow, I could only imagine what a doozy that must have been to write that up. Good reading. Was kind of expecting a Bel-Air to show up during the “History” review, though. xD

    March 30, 2011 at 3:35 am

    • I beg to differ sir! My High Elf Dragonkin is exactly level 1/10 of every class! And he trained Malfurion, Thrall, Uther, Jaina, Saurfang, Kel’thuzad, Edwin Van Cleef, Darion Mograine, and Zabra Hex. Not only that but she carries Arthas’ love child after he sat on the Frozen Throne. I think I lost my point there… Oh yeah. I agree whole heartedly. This ain’t D&D (best game in the world), so no multiclassing! This… is… AZEROTH! *kicks Mr. NNJ into a well*

I’m already reading 3 books at the time. Don’t need a fourth adding to that, so I am not gonna read that.

If you wanna tell such a long story, use forums not an in-game addon. Nobody will be reading it there. And if you only right it for yourself, then do just that and don’t post it for the whole world to see.
I am not interested in rp’ing with you if I see how long that thing is.

All I have to say it… ’bout damn time, I think.

@Thiltran: Moon Guard… where the good Lord graces us with the most “creative” people.

    Creativity = Good
    A 10… 20… 30 paragraphed page RSP/MPR = Not Good

It just stinks when a person doesn’t think they can be creative without do something outrageous or making themselves self-important. Or any horrible deed that was done. Whatever.

Your history is part of your character, yes. But it isn’t you. The person you are is the person you present to be. Like, I could read a book about you, (basically what we did) hear of all these great, heroic deeds you performed. Get the “honor” to meet you… and then find out you are some douche bag. Just a example of some case.

Unfortunately, my patience runs thin with people like this. Because when I meet people that are supposedly wise with age and mature… you aren’t. Just saying.

But I could be ranting too. But I have to say… I agree with most… TL;DR. All of it, at least. I’m already tired as it is. If I read something like that, I’d fall asleep at my chair.

Actually, I was told that Knaack plays a character named Rhonin.

No, really, some folks were RPing on Moon Guard and this 80 mage named Rhonin (back before Cataclysm, obviously) came in and started trying to steal the spotlight. They reported him for having a lore character’s name, but apparently he didn’t have to change it (though there don’t seem to be any characters named Rhonin anymore if I search the Armory).

I’m also told that Vereesa is just a sub-MarySue who exists only to pop out Rhonin’s half-elf babies even though she hates all humans.

  22. What. The. Hell.

Okay, at least now I know I will never need to RP with this person, since giving his personal history to me already, even if it is in OOC, I can tell that he’s boring as all feck and that I would get a better RP experience from a NPC. Or a tree. Or maybe just repeatedly flying up really high and dismounting to kill myself repeatedly.

That already was a very tempting thing to do as an alternate to reading… that.

What’s the damn point in interacting with you if your history already reads like an IKEA assembly form! Okay past that, what’s the damn point in interacting with you when all your quotes make you sound like a pompous stuffed shirt who will likely do more preaching at than actual talking to?

And you get annoyed at slow typers? Maybe it’s because they’re taking a moment to try to comprehend what you’re spouting off about in your heavy accent? I’ve been known to go off sounding like the bastard child of Eliza Doolittle and Jack Sparrow who just recently suffered a stroke, but I give the people around me ample time to process and respond.

Hell, I’d walk away without saying goodbye either, because I’d be running and screaming instead. KISS. Remember it, treasure it, live by it. Keep It Simple, Stupid.

  23. Cype

Knew a guy back on Feathermoon named Gjon. His description was -longer- and -more terrible.-

Atleast none of it had to do with his history. It was just a mountain of bullshit like saying that his Phantom Blade would melt you to a pile of ash if it touched you.

    As for this guy…

    I have nothing to say.

    March 30, 2011 at 2:32 pm

    • I think I’ve seen that guy, or I’m confusing him with another that had a novel length write up based off of how he received his sword and armor from the Lady in the Lake and stole half of his backstory from King Arther.

      March 30, 2011 at 3:34 pm

      • Cype

That wasn’t Gjon. He’s been gone for about a year and a half, now. He dissapeared some months after Nycetemal. Nycetemal was awesome.

Rules of playing in someone else’s canon number 14: You are not the badass savior of everything who was the first do do everything and masterminded everything the draenei ever did except crash the goddamn Exodar. Yes, with draenei, there is wiggle room for your character’s history. That does not mean you have carte blanche to write down the race’s entire history and then proceed to suck your own cock while you’re at it.

This needed to be shown to the public, that they would know what not to do with an RSP description.

    hahaha

I once saw this guy sitting in the middle of the lake right at the back of Stormwind city. He had waterwalking on, obviously, and had his totems down.

And he yelled something akin to this:

*Argunon meditates in the middle of the lack, concentrating very hard.*

Concentrating SO hard that you can feel his concentration a mile away.

Okay…Wow…This was a TL;DR that really needed cliff notes. 30 pages is crazy.

If I happened to be on the same server and read all of that I know exactly how I’d rp with that. I would assume he was a false prophet and consider him insane. Heroes, Gods and Demons nobody has ever heard of? Why do people that do this assume people will really walk up and say “Zomg It’s you! I’m so honored to be in your presence! Why are you chilling in a tavern in SW? Whatever, you are so wise, can I buy you some wine?” Or worse just accept that while you are the forefather of a couple major classes but you were never mentioned?

Also, no way I’m just gonna suddenly “feel” him concentrating. God moding at it’s finest.

I read that entire MyRP. Ouch, my head hurts, as do my eyes. Also, he mentioned druid spirits. Wut? So, not only is he a priest AND shaman, but he can also commune with the nature spirits that really only talk to druids for the most part? As I recall, shamans never had to go to Moonglade to speak to a bear spirit so they could do…shaman-ey things. So, either he was hinting at being at least partly druidic or he’s been hitting the sapta a little hard lately.

    • “gotten through the horrible thing”, that should have read. Let’s hear it for proper sentences!

      March 31, 2011 at 4:39 pm

  35. Moonguardian

    Yes he is part druid.

I’ve roleplayed with him several times, since he has been wanting to join the guild I was in before he created his own.

He got kicked out of an open role play event by one of the most lax guilds around because he was being a general idiot, and he has a terrible case of the Shatner, where he … too much. He abuses would, he can’t do their/they’re/there, anything you can think of, he’s done it wrong. He also tries speaking in a really pompous English but it just comes out horrid.

Conclusion: This guy is just another Mary Sue who had too much time to write his profile since everyone kind of ignores him.

To start off, I know Argunon, just saying that to prepare the trolls for whats about to be said.

Whether or not his Roleplaying fits YOUR idea of how it should be, it doesnt matter. You have in fact though given him fame on Moon Guard with this ACHINGLY long rant about how bad it is. Now the guild may get more publicity

    April 5, 2011 at 4:07 pm

  37. That MRP Profile was written 5-months ago when I began to role-play…

Our targets are not the new roleplayers, who simply need direction, advice, or information.

Explain, how ridiculing and completely mocking a new roleplayer is going to help them?

Ironically enough, I wouldn’t have read this post if he hadn’t complained about it on the forums.

  39. Laenara

It’s like I said before. If you’re a new RPer, -use the beginner roleplayer tag-. That’s what it’s there for, to show you’re new to this kind of thing.

    April 5, 2011 at 5:27 pm

  40. Right….yet….I found before I even downloaded these addons, I was told to “leave” role-plays, because, I wasen’t very good, and had just began.

Thus, I did not choose to put the “beginner” role-playing tag, because I felt that doing so would decrease the chances of random RP.

In all honesty, Argunon, nothing you say is going to change anything. You were posted here, they’re probably not going to remove the post, and they’re certainly not going to stop making posts in the future.

However, it is important to note that being posted on RPL is not the worst thing that could happen as a roleplayer. You are fortunate in that you chose Moon Guard as your server of choice for RP. MG is so large that only the absolute worst of RPers are completely shunned or remembered for any length of time.

You have the opportunity to improve yourself and your RP abilities. Use it. Read through the post, especially the “How can we improve this?” section, make the changes that are suggested, and you will find that this post is quickly forgotten.
It may also be worth noting that as you are just beginning your RP career, you may want to head over to the official forums, or lurk around high traffic areas to get an idea of what your emotes and dialogue should include.

      April 5, 2011 at 7:18 pm

    • Baenhoof

You’re as good at RP as you want to be.
It’s been proven that reading books helps people learn English, so I would recommend doing that. If English isn’t your first language, perhaps you should consider an ESL class. Failing that, putting something like “I know my English isn’t great, please let me know if I mess up” in your MRP goes a long way.

We were all new to roleplay and creative writing at some point, but what really seperates mediocre/bad RPers from good RPer Is a willingness to improve. Admit you are learning, be VERY receptive of critique, both scathing and kind, and actually attempt to learn.

Lan and Varen’s ‘How can we make this better’ segment is full of some very sage advice, and it is put very succinctly and very neutrally. I would read it again with an open mind and take it to heart if I were you.

Too bad you can’t make up your own lore. See, this is why I troll Moon Guard. Everyone is stupid.

      April 16, 2011 at 11:22 am

      • I read that as “Some folks are just dumb, so I’m going to contribute to the idiocy.”

        April 16, 2011 at 11:31 am

  41. Aeter

The most amusing thing was seeing him constantly get into fights and “HIS EYES GLOW A BRIGHT WHITE AS HE SWINGS AROUND THE LIGHT OF CREATION”.

    April 6, 2011 at 11:18 am

  42. Hopesend

“You can’t heal with the Light one day and then yell for the Spirits to defend you. You need to pick one or the other. You can’t have your cake and eat it too.”

While you’re probably right that players should stick with one class, rather than mixing up a hybrid of priest/shaman/druid, I’m not sure these magics are as mutually exclusive as you say.

I almost immediately thought of Med’an from the comics, who’s been rocking the arcane, divine, and shamanic powers. He arguably inherited his ability to use these schools from his parents, though his heritage is fairly extraordinary. But it’s likely best that roleplay characters stick to one class, and leave these fusion styles to the lore characters.

Incidentally, I was under the impression that the Draenei always had an affinity with the Light, and that whole tradition didn’t just start with Velen and his exiles. Maybe it’s just that we’ve only really met those Eredar who follow the Light.

    April 6, 2011 at 1:11 pm

    • Laenara

Med’an is a horrible, horrible comparison. Keep in mind he’s probably the single most hated character by the fanbase simply because of, well, exactly what you mentioned. There’s a reason they’ve said he’ll never show up in-game.

But your other points are spot on. RP characters shouldn’t multi-class, really, and if they do they can’t be especially good at both. They might be decent in one and exceptional in the other, or even average in both. But for the most part I myself stick to one class, the one I rolled, even if I am changing up my warrior’s style a little to focus on lighter gear and a more agility-based fighting style, having her use leather along with her dual-wielding spec.

      April 6, 2011 at 5:38 pm

      • Hopesend

Actually, in this case it does seem like a good comparison, given people’s reactions to Argunon’s multiple power sources. I wasn’t aware there’s that much hate towards him, but I can understand why there would be. I’m not particularly fond of his character either, but he shows that these different powers may not be exclusive.

It might prove interesting actually, from either a lore or roleplay perspective, to look into the principles behind the different paths. A mage trying to prove the Light is a type of arcane magic, or a paladin who is trying to follow the teachings of Cenarius.

Have they said they won’t bring Med’an in game though? I know they don’t plan to have him in Cataclysm, but that doesn’t mean we won’t ever see him.

        April 7, 2011 at 3:44 pm

        • Laenara

I believe they specifically said at one point that Med’an would never be in WoW at all, but it might have just been Cata.

Honestly I’m hoping they don’t put him in at any point, I don’t find him interesting in the least myself. Rather see more of Garona instead.

    April 8, 2011 at 7:10 am

  45. Valdiis

I have a recollection of this character mocking my draenei priest while he was spending a few moments in prayer before going to meet a friend.

As an avid draenei RPer, it looks to me like this player took a brief glance at what draenei lore there is and then made up whatever times and dates he felt like, then inserted himself into every major event as early as (im)possible. There ARE some sources for draenei lore which have SOME dates. They do not match up with this. Look at Wowpedia; look at RP Made Simple; read Rise of the Horde and Unbroken. Talk to other draenei RPers, even.

I think the thing which most offends me about this RP flag is that accepting this self-indulgent heroism forces me to have any of my characters recognize and be in awe of him. While I’m sure inspiring awe is the player’s intent (because that makes one feel special), forcing it through anything less than personal interaction – instead of impersonal RP flags – infuriates me.

    April 8, 2011 at 12:33 pm

  46. You know, I never really thought this guy was so bad. He wrote a lot of good stuff, and I accepted his new faith based off the very evident “new” and revitalized Draenei faith as we see in the Swamp of Sorrows quests. Even if it wasn’t followed by every draenei ever, it is acceptable that he did it. Perhaps we should ponder just how exclusive these magics are to the draenei people who have a natural affinity with the Light through their communion with the Naaru. Shamans still have the Gift of the Naaru spell.

Multiclassing to me is completely acceptable in this case, amd reading this guy’s writings on the “Primal Light” and the “Light of Creation” was in fact refreshing. If we’re going to sit and complain of detailed backstory, even if there were a few times when a discrepancy was held and if he didn’t feel like rewriting an already written backstory to fit an add-on’s built in guidelines, then I think we need to rethink our philosophies.

I’m not saying he’s a stellar example of what a roleplayer ought to be, but I give him props for doing something different and out of the box, and I sympathize with the notion that perhaps he doesn’t belong here on this site. He may be one of the better draenei roleplayers I’ve seen.

For all the Knaak hate, and yes, I agree with it to some extent, there are too many sue-ish characters in his novels… he is someone most of us can tolerate to some degree. I have at least SOME respect for the guy, not much, but some.

    But this…

This… turd… of an MRP is just bad. Just plain awful. Seriously. I’d rather read Knaak a million times than have to re-read this again. It’s that bad. Ugh…
