While it is not a new story, it is new to canonical lore.

Yeah, so weird, I mean…it’s ALMOST like this story was supposed to be an insight into the mind of a racial leader instead of a major update for the race as a whole.

Hey guys, who had the rivalry with the Silver Covenant in Wrath and sponsored the Horde in the Argent Tourney? Idk but it certainly wasn’t the Sunreavers, that organization didn’t exist!

Does anyone remember that elven blade we found in Icecrown had had a huge quest chain explaining why the San’layn were working for Arthas and where they came from – then gave us an update for the Sunwell and facetime with Lady Liadrin, Lor’themar Theron, and Halduron Brightwing? ME NEITHER, LOL

Making night elf women seem less and less night elfy is a standard procedure for Blizzard since WoW hit. See the bounce for more details.

But part of me already knew Blizzard stopped caring for night elves in any sense of the word when they let Knaak write about them. Or when they gave worgen access to the druid class because they got tired of using the female model to show the new druid armor (because male night elves aren’t cool unless they’re Illidan.)

Not to mention the death, convenient disappearance, or neutral pussification of the cool, interesting, and powerful night elves during a time where they’re at war with the orcs. See Staghelm, Bearmantle, and Stormrage, respectively.

Hahaha. Lor’themar. Seriously, though. I’m sure he’s a cool guy. Isn’t he that blood elf dude that nobody cares about until a For the Alliance raid starts? I don’t get the big deal, Belves got a great deal of lore in Wrath, and have had plenty of info since then. They certainly get more focus than Draenei. So it’s an old story. I doubt most people read all the entries to Blizz’s contests, and I think this is great that Blizz is listening to people who write stories about the lore and including them in the canon. Certainly not a spit in our face as you make it out to be. As a writer myself, I would love to have some of my stories included in official canon. And really, it could have been a lot worse. To many players that never read the entrants to the contest, as you mentioned, back in ’08, this gives them a chance to see it.

I do wonder how much digging you had to do to find this, I know I wouldn’t recognize something like that almost four years later right off the bat.

I’m going to punch my computer in the face if they don’t update the Draenei starting zone soon. Or maybe the Alliance just forgot about all the Draenei on Silver Myst Isle that -still- seems to have crash victims after all these years.. Somehow..

Leave it to Blizzard to be lazy with the lore. No wonder the RP on World of Warcraft is dwindling..

My guildies and I were joking around in Vent earlier the other day, as more than half of our vent server’s activity is in the TOR channels now and I was blaming “Those damn Star Wars nerds” for the lag I was experiencing.

Thus began the age-old joke about the fantasy nerds battling the sci-fi nerds, and I (barely) resisted the urge to hop into one of their channels and ask how they felt about THE PHANTOM MENACE IN 3D!

That’s some fairly strong words to be tossing out about this. You’ll have to excuse me if I don’t find one’s personal anger at having all of his questions answered insulting to everyone. As you’ll have to understand as a guy who been called savage/barbaric and god knows what else by elves I am not exactly itching to find out how they’ve been doing, more then likely still being jerks.

Having said this I’ll agree that some new story would of been better but it’s not a horrid thing and I thought the point of these stories are to explain the faction leader’s mind and thoughts and kind of flesh them out as more then just NPC’s who don’t like to move. In that sense I think they did just fine. If anyone needed some fleshing out it was Lor’themar(aka:That guy in Silvermoon) and they did just that.

Now as far as answering all of your burning questions on blood elves and what the hell is going on with them I don’t think you where going to get that. Even in the stories of current or near current setting it’s not really answering all of those burning desire questions but merely touching on subjects to ground them. In short, you most likely wouldn’t of gotten the answers you wanted even if they did give you a brand new story. As that was not the point of the whole leader’s stories.

You know what you should be demanding? Updated RPG lore books for the Warcraft Universe. That’d most likely give you the answers to your questions and alot of other folks’s as well.

No one’s arguing that it’s not a good story. The issue is that after ignoring their lore for so long and neglecting this race in particular for YEARS, Blizz tries to set themselves up to look like they care about the RP community by saying “Hey, we haven’t forgotten you guys! Here’s some BRANDNEWOMGSPARKLES lore!”

Except it’s not.

It’s an old fan story–an AMAZING one, IMO–from YEARS ago. So not only has there been no progress to the Belf story since TBC, but Blizz has gotten so lazy about upkeeping their story that they’re content to recycle old fan content and canonize it just to get out of getting off their asses and writing something–ANYTHING–up to date themselves. It’s insulting, and it shows their lack of commitment to their own community, if you ask me.

For the record, I loved this story and I think it’s great that it’s now considered official lore. But come the hell on, Blizz. It’s been four years, you couldn’t whip out a few paragraphs yourselves? Why not add to this and use it as a jumping point? Maybe explain why Lor’themar is still regent to an empty throne? Seriously…can we either make this guy king or start up a council already? What about the Conclave? This neglect has gone on long enough.

This only reaffirms why I left WoW. Blizz just doesn’t care anymore, and it shows. And honestly, I miss enjoying the game. But they pissed on lore, and this last straw with Thrall and Aggra, and the Aspects being fucked over was the one that broke the camel’s back.
